چکیده

An iterative automatic method is used to calculate, from impedance measurements at resonance in three sample shapes and four modes of resonance, all the directly obtained coefficients that are needed to determine the ten elastic, dielectric and piezoelectric complex coefficients of the characteristic matrix of a 6mm symmetry ferro-piezoelectric ceramic for a controlled porosity material. A soft PZT ceramic with a Morphotropic Phase Boundary (MPB) composition was studied. Samples with homogeneously distributed close porosity were prepared and tested. A fugitive phase was added to the perovskite type structure precursor powder to produce the porous materials and the samples were consolidated by die pressing. Shear coefficients are here obtained using an alternative geometry to the Standards shear sample, that was proved to be dynamically clamped at resonance. Comparison of these shear results and those obtained with the geometry of the Standards is here discussed and the advantages for the shear characterization of porous ceramics derived from the use of this new geometry are presented.

An equivalent dipole analysis of PZT ceramics and lead-free piezoelectric single crystals

The recently proposed Equivalent Dipole Model for describing the electromechanical properties of ionic solids in terms of 3 ions and 2 bonds has been applied to PZT ceramics and lead-free single crystal piezoelectric materials, providing analysis in terms of an effective ionic charge and the asymmetry of the interatomic force constants. For PZT it is shown that, as a function of composition acr...

Electrically induced strain and polarization fatigue in lead-free ceramics

Piezoelectric ceramics have traditionally been used in commercial applications such as actuators and sensors. By far the most popular piezoceramics currently in use are Pb(Zr,Ti)O3-based (PZT) ceramics. PZT ceramics are able to produce large strain and polarization with the application of an electric field, and this is due to the Morphotropic phase boundary (MPB). A MPB is associated with the b...

The monoclinic phase in PZT: new light on morphotropic phase boundaries

$! A summary of the work recently carried out on the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) of PZT is presented. By means of x-ray powder diffraction on ceramic samples of excellent quality, the MPB has been successfully characterized by changing temperature in a series of closely spaced compositions. As a result, an unexpected monoclinic phase has been found to exist in between the well-known tetra...

Micro-mechanics of multi-phase ferroelectric domain structures

High-strain piezoelectric materials are often ceramics with a complicated constitution. In particular, PZT is used with compositions near to a so-called morphotropic phase boundary, where not only different variants of the same phase (domains), but different phases may coexist. Micro-mechanical models for ferroelectric ceramics would be much more realistic, if these effects could be incorporate...

Stability of ferroic phases in the highly piezoelectric Pb(ZrxTi1-x)O3 ceramics.

The morphotropic phase boundary in the phase diagram of the technologically important Pb(ZrxTi1-x)O3 (PZT) ceramics has been traditionally believed to separate ferroelectric tetragonal and rhombohedral phase regions. This old picture has come under close scrutiny during the last eight years following the discovery of new monoclinic phases in the Cm and Cc space groups. This article presents a b...
